Inexperience, rain in the forecast for Kentucky Derby

Today is the Kentucky Derby, and in case you're a casual fan who's still looking for a horse to cheer on, we've got something for you to consider.

Saturday, May 5 is the 144th Kentucky Derby with 20 horses running for the roses.

Interestingly, previous year the organizers of the Kentucky Derby instituted the "Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby" rule, which allowed for horses from that respective country to be able to compete in the race. The closer is trained by Keith Desormeaux and ridden by Kent Desormeaux, a three-time Derby victor and Keith's brother.

Twenty horses will meet on the track at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Mendelssohn has a ton of experience under his belt and is on a three-start win streak with victories at the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile, the Patton Stakes and the Grade 2 UAE Derby.

He remains undefeated and is the current subject of early Triple Crown hype after winning over what's been described as one of the strongest Derby fields in years. The race begins at 6:50 p.m. The closer is trained by Keith Desormeaux and ridden by Kent Desormeaux, a three-time Derby victor and Keith's brother.

Todd Pletcher will saddle four horses: Audible, the co-third choice at 6-1, along with longshots Magnum Moon, Vino Rosso and Noble Indy.

However, in 2017, a muddy track didn't affect Derby favorite Always Dreaming, who came in first - albeit a bit slower than expected at 2:03.59 - despite a muddy track. The 144th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday. Making his first start on February 18 at Santa Antia Park, the son of Scat Daddy cruised by 9 1/2 lengths. His regal bloodlines and $3 million price tag suggest he would be a worthy champion, but no Europe-based horse has won the Derby. But Audible also has a good trainer and is fresh off a Florida Derby victory. They also host a popular Best Hat contest, which Lisa Little Adams said is one of the highlights of the year.
