Texas officers in Washington for Peace Officer Memorial Day

Tragically, 128 police officers died in the line of duty nationwide previous year.

Please join the McAllen Police Department in honoring those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in public service to their community. The fearless men and women of our Nation's law enforcement work long hours, often in unsafe situations, to protect our lives, liberty, and property. The event honored 2017 Texas Fallen Peace Officers that died in the line of duty. Delong was driving a Chevrolet pickup, which was reportedly stolen from Devils Lake. "I have heard recent stories of police officers, during a typical traffic stop, being challenged on their authority when asking for a license and registration in the hopes that the individuals involved in the stop can be the next social media video hit".

Pursuant to the same resolution, Tuesday, May 15, is National Peace Officers Memorial Day, when we honor law enforcement officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty.

From Marion County, Knoxville Officer M.A. "Bert" Conrey, Marion County Jailer Virgil Behrens, Marion County Deputy Harold Gates, and Pella Police Officer John Van Haaften all died on duty.

"We're calling on Congress to secure our borders, support our border agents, stop sanctuary cities and shutdown polities that release violent criminals back into our communities", Trump said during a speech in conjunction with National Police Week, an annual event that convenes in the nation's capital. Additionally, the police department enjoys a great working relationship with other law enforcement agencies working throughout Marshall County.

Sunday started "National Police Week" across America.

During National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, give us the opportunity to pause and to honor these fearless public servants, to reflect on their commitment and valor, and to honor the families who grieve their loss.

On Thursday, there will be a Police Memorial Day Ceremony at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Camellia Boulevard. This allows governors to order the American flag to fly at half-staff in recognition of first responders who are killed in the line of duty.
