Sources said Weinstein will be charged with first and third-degree rape related to one case and criminal sex act related to another.

"I would rather be ready for that kind of coverage and his trial, than just coverage of him golfing in Scottsdale, so I will be ready for it", she said. Weinstein has denied wrongdoing, asserting that he believes any sexual encounters he engaged in were consensual.

The allegations against Weinstein sparked the #MeToo movement and a nationwide discussion about sexual assault and harassment, compelling women and men to come forward with their own accusations against other prominent figures.

Salma Hayek, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are among than two dozen actresses who say they were sexually harassed by the producer.

Witnesses say Mr Weinstein appeared pale and stared into space while prosecutors outlined the bail agreement.

Weinstein, who turned himself in on Friday morning for rape and charges of forcing a woman to perform oral sex, has been released on $1 million bond after his court appearance earlier today. Weinstein was also ordered to wear a GPS monitoring system, stay in NY state or CT, and hand over his passport before being released.

Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to the NY police on Friday.

The disgraced producer was spotted walking into the Manhattan police station with two books under his arm; Elia Kazan: A Biography, about the influential film and theater director from the late forties through the sixties, and Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution.

About 90 minutes later, Weinstein was led by officers into court in handcuffs, grimacing, with his head bowed and his books nowhere in sight.

"We intend to move very quickly to dismiss these charges". They said his beaming face made them feel sick.

"This is a big strike into the heart of abuse of power", she said, "and it shows people worldwide ... that this can not and will not stand".

They are the first criminal charges against the twice-married, shamed former titan, who already faces a slew of civil lawsuits, is reportedly under federal investigation and whose former studio has filed for bankruptcy.

Harvey Weinstein's courthouse arrival "Today's charges reflect significant progress in this active, ongoing investigation".

In 2017, Weinstein was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Miramax, the company he founded with his brother, Bob, helped reinvent independent film, with hits like "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love".

Weinstein's accusers will hope Brafman's assumptions are incorrect.

They include TV hosts Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose, comedian Louis CK, Democratic Senator Al Franken, chef Mario Batali, casino magnate Steve Wynn and, most recently, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Last week, at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, where Weinstein was once a fixture and several of his alleged sexual assault incidents took place, Argento gave an impromptu speech, calling out other sexual predators.

The rape charge involves a woman who has not come forward publicly; the other is onetime aspiring actress Lucia Evans, who was among his first accusers.

Police set up a sting in which the woman recorded herself confronting Weinstein.
