'PUBG' creators sue Epic Games over 'Fortnite' battle royale mode

In each game, players have to fight to become the sole survivor after being dropped off on an island with dozens of other players. Per the report, PUBG Corp. filed the injunction with the Seoul Central District Court back in January, though no other information around the filling has be revealed to the public.

BlueHole has previously spoken out about similarities between Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, shortly after the release of Fortnite: Battle Royale in September previous year.

Now the company behind PUBG is taking Fortnite's creators to court. The allegedly infringing material: Fortnite Battle Royale, a standalone title borrowing the core concepts - and, allegedly, more detailed gameplay and user interface elements - from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and shoehorning them into what was originally a cooperative sandbox title dubbed Fortnite Save the World.

There's little doubt that Fortnite's mode was designed in response to PUBG's success.

One of the deciding factors in difficulty between this week's challenges and last week's are mainly that there's nothing in this week's challenges that require you to complete a certain number of objectives all during the same match. In a press release issued in September, Chang Han Kim, vice president of PUBG publisher Bluehole, said that the company was anxious that Fortnite was copying PUBG, stating that Bluehole was "concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known".

It's not the first infringement suit PUGB Corporation has filed; last month it sued NetEase over its mobile apps Rules of Survival and Knives Out in California.

If PUBG is arguing a case that Epic Games stole content by simply making a game in the same genre, the developer will likely be unsuccessful.
