Assad: Syria Must Get Rid of US Troops, by Force if Necessary

Syrian President Bashar Assad warned in comments broadcast Thursday that he would wage war to expel USA troops from northeastern Syria if dialogue fails to bring the area back under government control.

His regime had "started now opening doors for negotiations" with the SDF but accused the USA and "their puppets in Europe" as "hindering the political process".

Mr Assad denied attacking his own people and said the attack would not have been in the government's interest: "They told a story, they told a lie, and the public opinion around the world and in the West didn't buy their story, but they couldn't withdraw". We don't have any other options, with the Americans or without the Americans. "If not, we're going to resort to. liberating those areas by force, ' he said, adding 'the Americans should leave, somehow they're going to leave".

The Kurds in oil-rich northeastern Syria have long pushed for increased autonomy in their heartland but Damascus has insisted it intends to reassert its authority over the entire country.

"We are concerned by these reports of an impending Syrian regime operation in southwest Syria within the boundaries of the de-escalation zone previously negotiated between the US, Jordan and Russian Federation", U.S. Army Lt. Col. Earl Brown from the US Central Command told i24NEWS in a statement. "The Americans should leave".

He also claimed that direct conflict between Russian military and US forces had been "close" in Syria, and that it had only been avoided thanks to Putin's leadership.

"Thankfully, it has been averted, not by the knowledge of the American management, however by the knowledge of the Russian management". We are not talking about the kinds of pinprick airstrikes on a Hezbollah weapons convoy that Damascus has grown comfortable with over the previous several years, but rather the destruction of a far more expansive target set throughout the country. Syrian air-defense systems reportedly attempted to intercept the missiles.

Assad told RT the scale of the bombing raid could have been much larger had it not been for the threats of counter measures by Russian Federation. "We are doing that", he said. Russians are talking to Iranians about the spoils, trials, and tribulations of a post-war Syria under Assad's grip.

Expanding on Liberman's comments, security officials believe that Iran may try to retaliate to the alleged Israeli attack, either with Iranian weapons transported into Syria from Iran or by "borrowing" Syrian army systems. "So, they attacked those bases, and they destroyed a big part of our air defenses", he pointed out. "Really we had tens of Syrians, martyred and wounded troopers, not a single Iranian".

Netanyahu also announced that he will meet the leaders of France, Germany and possibly Britain next week to discuss ways to stop what he called Iran's nuclear ambitions and regional expansionism.

Reports suggest that Syria's government, which has been reinforced and supported by Russian Federation, is preparing for a major offensive against rebel groups in the area bordering Israel.
