Destiny 2's Next Expansion Is Changing A Lot

If you're unfamiliar with Destiny 2, you can check out our review, and the latest expansion pack, Warmind.

"Destiny 2's" all-new game mode is called Gambit, and it combines a mix of team-based PvP combat and non-player alien combatants. Upon arrival, you soon discover the most-wanted criminals in the Prison of Elders have organized an escape. Bungie is also adding a new location, The Dreaming City, designed for endgame play. The Tangled Shore is a series of lashed together asteroids deep in the Reef, a lawless part of the solar system akin to a galactic Old West.

Forsaken is also planned to ship with a new raid, the Dreaming City, which features "more bosses than ever before" and a wide variety of secrets and hidden features. Activision confirms that Forsaken will have "highly anticipated changes and features such as a new weapon slot system, improvements to the mods system, and numerous other quality-of-life improvements". You get to play how you want, whether it's Destiny 1's weapon slot system, Destiny 2's, or even insane new loadouts like triple-shotguns. Rumble's also coming back for good. This investment will give Bungie the resources to help create and maintain many different franchises at the same time.

The new title is probably a reference to Fallen Captain Mithrax, the Forsaken, who appeared in the Chances and Choices mission in the Enemy of My Enemy World Quest. Bows are also in, and each class seems to be getting significant reworks - "anime" style Void Warlock teleports were highlighted as the standout adjustment.

While little else is known about Gambit's mechanics, which will likely undergo additional tuning from now until its September 4 release, Tuesday's year-two broadcast showed Guardians "banking" Motes of Light and taunting their opponents from behind a transparent wall separating two teams. It got off to a fast start in 2015, but its first two expansions underwhelmed until the third - The Taken King - came out about a year the base game debuted.

Then we've got an all-new mode titled Gambit.

The next expansion to Destiny 2 is Forsaken, out September 4 and bringing a bunch of stuff to Bungie's space shooter, including a wild new mode and an overhaul of how weapons work.
