Novak Djokovic Falls at the French Open

Novak Djokovic gave a glimpse of his old self as he suffered a meltdown at the French Open on Friday.

Madison Keys beat Yulia Putintseva 7-6 (5), 6-4 to qualify for the last four at Roland-Garros for the first time in her career. "I know it's hard right after the match".

'I don't know if I'm going to play on grass'.

"I know how to handle a Grand Slam now, how... to get that deep in such a tournament, and I think everything gets better with experience".

"In the most important moments I managed to play an extra shot in the court, made him run and made him uncomfortable".

Seeded 20th after a well-documented slump, Djokovic blunted Verdasco's explosive firepower with his signature counter-punching to book an unlikely last-eight date with Marco Cecchinato.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion took the first two sets by a single break of serve and raced through the third as 34-year-old Verdasco ended with 48 unforced errors.

Even though the day started with Zverev getting knocked out, the Djokovic-Cecchinato battle actually proved to be a treat for the spectators.

After losing a point during the tiebreaker in the second set, Djokovic angrily whacked his racket into the clay. Italian Cecchinato was mixing things up to great effect, tying Djokovic to the baseline while throwing in regular, at times remarkable, spin-heavy drop-shots from the back of the court.

Dimitrov took a 3-1 lead in the tie break, but he eventually lost six out of the next seven points to fall one set behind.

He admitted he was also close to quitting at 1-5 down in the second set.

His opponent, however, was the stronger in an epic fourth-set tiebreak, prevailing 6-3 7-6 (4) 1-6 7-6 (11) on his fourth match point after more than three hours of high-octane tennis.

Novak Djokovic is facing the gravest crisis of his career after a shock French Open defeat to Italian journeyman Marco Cecchinato left him contemplating missing Wimbledon to rebuild his game and reboot his state of mind.

But Cecchinato had not given up, yet, and he broke back for 5-4 to force a memorable tiebreak. Stephens beat Keys in the U.S. Open final last September, and their rematch on Thursday will be the first all-American women's semifinal at the French Open since Serena Williams defeated Jennifer Capriati in 2002. There were moments in that tiebreak when it felt like Djokovic would force the final set and then there was a weird moment, when Djokovic skied the ball when he could have taken the set.

He said: "Maybe I'm sleeping".

Djokovic has been superb to this point at Roland-Garros, most recently defeating the streaking Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday.

"It's fantastic. It's unbelievable for me. I am very happy".
