Is Fortnite Cross Play on Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo announced the news at E3 2018, the annual video game industry trade show, in Los Angeles.

Nintendo announced that Fortnite: Battle Royale would be live in the U.S. from 10 AM PT on June 12.

It was no surprise that Fortnite on PS4 wouldn't be cross-play enabled with every other version, but something odd is going on with Epic Games accounts. But Xbox One and PS4 cross-play is a non-starter. You can download it from the Microsoft Store here. Sure, I was hoping for some Nintendo-related goodies, but there's plenty of time for Ninty to add some of their trademark flourishes. Sony seems to think they've got something special in disallowing their PS4-connected Fortnite accounts from connecting to any other platform... which is nonsense.

Notably, you can only link an existing Epic account to Fortnite Switch if that account had been tied to PC, Xbox, or mobile before.

Fortnite Battle Royale can be downloaded for free from 6pm United Kingdom time TODAY.

It will not, however, be available with PS4 gamers, which also means that PSN users probably won't be able to carry over progress to the Switch via their Epic account.

"Qualifying for the World Cup will be based on merit, and Epic will not be selling teams or franchises", says Smith, "and we won't allow third-party leagues to do so either". Fortunately, the question of whether or not Fortnite on the Switch supports cross platform play is easy to answer.

It's also unclear if Fortnite Save the World will be ported alongside Battle Royale in 2018.

Have you been patiently waiting for Nintendo to add more streaming partners to the Nintendo Switch?
