Chipotle reopens in Ohio after reports of illnesses

Business Insider reported late-Monday that more than 170 people said they fell ill after eating at a restaurant in OH. The company reported a 3.3 percent increase in same-store sales during this year's second quarter, with revenue increasing 8.3 percent to 1.3 billion, and an improvement in digital sales. The Delaware General Health District told Reuters the county health department received more than 100 calls since the first complaint linked to the restaurant came in Sunday.

Records show local health officials inspected the location July 26 and found violations related to food not being held at proper temperatures, Business Insider said. "We acted quickly and closed this single restaurant out of an abundance of caution and we are working with health officials to reopen this restaurant as soon as possible".

Reports indicate that nine individuals in total have reported symptoms including fever, nausea, and vomiting. It said it implemented its food-safety-response protocols, which include replacing the food and cleaning the restaurant.

A Chipotle restaurant in OH has reopened as officials investigate reports of illnesses linked to the location. "We are not aware of any confirmed foodborne illness cases, and we are cooperating with the local health department".

Chipotle said it planned to reopen the OH restaurant on Tuesday after it deep cleaned the restaurant and removed all exposed foods and single-use equipment, pending approval from the local health department.

The website saw a surge in reports following Business Insider's report late Monday that the company had shut down the restaurant due to customer illness reports. "If this story gains traction, it might have more serious implications for the stock".

Chipotle has been trying to overcome a tarnished reputation tied to multiple food safety incidents at its restaurants.

It is also the first major food safety issue under new Chief Executive Brian Niccol as he works to bring back customers to the Mexican food chain that once was an investor darling.
