Collusion is not a crime

Collusion is not a crime

Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani recently argued that "collusion is not a crime".

A guest on Melber's show later pointed to a fifth possible collusion crime: bribery of public officials. So collusion is not only a crime; collusion involves at least four crimes.

US President Donald Trump renewed claims on Sunday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has "conflicts of interest" that should bar him from probing Russian interference in the 2016 election, saying the pair had a business relationship. The strategy may be the latest in Trump's efforts to strip legitimacy from the Mueller probe, which he has long denounced as a "witch hunt".

"There is no collusion, and even if there was, it's not a crime".

Giuliani also said Monday that "the odds are against" a Trump interview with Mueller, but that he "wouldn't be shocked" if the President went through with it because he "wants to do it so badly".

In fact, there is no statute covering "colluding" with a foreign power. He added, however, that there is a question of whether Americans conspired with Russian Federation to violate US laws.

That could include hacking into Democratic Party computers, it said.

In a series of tweets, Trump decried the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller as "a disgrace".

Of course, Giuliani is correct in his analysis that collusion, in and of itself, is not a crime. "It's us, meaning the team of lawyers, including me, that have the most reservations about that".

The trial of his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, on tax and bank fraud charges is set to begin in Virginia. But the shifting focus from a strong denial of collusion to questioning whether collusion would even be illegal marks a shift for the Trump legal team. Trump has also asserted he didn't know about the meeting. The president has also used his Twitter to allege partisan bias among Mueller's investigative team, which he has dubbed the "13 angry Democrats". I say that to attack the legitimacy of the investigation, ' Giuliani said. "Collusion at one point never happened, the next point if it happened it's not serious". "If there were any conflicts of interest that were brought to our attention, I would discuss with Mr. Mueller, and then there could be review within the department, if there were a credible allegation of a conflict of interest", Rosenstein answered.

"Whatever his conclusion is on the issue of collusion, I will stand by it", Durbin said. Only 1 with the president of the united States, ' Giuliani said. "That's simply the facts and the law".

President Donald Trump listens during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in the Oval Office of the White House, Monday, July 30, 2018, in Washington. Of course not, ' Giuliani said.

It's an argument that was made previous year by well-known attorney Alan Dershowitz, who has publicly supported Trump but is not on his formal legal team.

"It's not particularly helpful".
