Frustration builds as police stay mum on missing Iowa woman

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has said that Tibbetts was last seen jogging in her nearby hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa.

However, Kearney police Sgt. Joe Kantola told KMBC-TV that "if Mollie had been spotted in the surveillance video from the truck stop, he would have mentioned it in the statement", and he said only one person claimed to have seen someone who looked like Tibbetts at the truck stop.

Donations have poured in over the past few days and the family is now offering a $172,000 reward for information that will lead authorities to her.

Police dashed out a glimmer of hope in the case of a missing Iowa college student after a possible sighting had been reported near Kansas City, Missouri, last week.

But again he declined to say whether Tibbetts is believed to have returned home safely from a jog that evening. The Kearney, Missouri, police department said on Wednesday that they responded to the possible sighting on July 26.

Laura Calderwood said during a news conference that she believes her daughter, 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, is alive but has potentially been kidnapped.

"She's out there. We feel it".

Dalton Jack and Mollie Tibbetts are pictured in a photo posted to Facebook, July 20, 2018.

Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa spokesman Greg Willey promised to protect the anonymity of tipsters who call in or submit tips online, saying the group uses software that scrubs identifying information.

Calderwood said the family is partnering with Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa, a local volunteer-run organization that assists in solving crimes, "to help facilitate the process of receiving information anonymously".

"Sometimes I just feel her sitting on my shoulder", she said.

Investigators have been looking at various data, including social media and information from a Fitbit that Tibbetts is known to have used.

"The first night she went missing, I was distraught", Calderwood told CNN affiliate KCCI in Des Moines. Officials continue to search for her.
