'Facts of Life' star Charlotte Rae reportedly dead at 92

Born Charlotte Rae Lubotsky in Milwaukee on 22 April 1926, Rae studied drama at Northwestern University before moving to NY where she found work doing satirical sketches in Greenwich Village clubs.

Rae died at her Los Angeles home today with her family at her side, said her publicist, Harlan Boll. She later gained national attention for her supporting role on "Diff'rent Strokes" before pitching Garrett as the centerpiece of a spinoff series that would become "The Facts of Life".

Both shows were wildly successful between the late '70s and mid-'80s - but they were just a small slice of her long career. She later did local theater, but broke into television as Sylvia Schnauser, the wife of Al Lewis' Officer Leo Schnauser on the classic comedy vehicle 54, Where Are You?

In the years since, Charlotte continued to act, with roles on shows like Pretty Little Liars, ER and The King of Queens. A cause of death was not provided. 'My mother, sister, and my uncle died of pancreatic cancer.

"I had attractive wigs", Rae said. "You were loved by everyone on our show and you were loved by everyone on the facts of life will miss you "My heart is full of Pain" Rest in peace my friend". Her last TV credit was a 2015 episode of Girl Meets World.

A reboot of The Facts of Life is in the early stages at Sony Pictures TV with production companies run by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessica Biel circling the project.

Charlotte is survived by her two children, Larry and Andrew Strauss, from her marriage to USA film composer John Strauss.

Rae made numerous TV appearances in 1950s drama anthologies including "The U.S. Steel Hour", "Playhouse 90" and "Armstrong Circle Theater", sharing the black-and-white screen with such actors as Zero Mostel, Art Carney and Gertrude Berg. As she wrote in her 2015 memoir, "The Facts of My Life", co-written with her son Larry, she struggled with alcoholism when her husband came out as bisexual and revealed he had been cheating on her with other men.
