Homeless vet to get balance of $400K amid defrauding accusations

But the homeless man, who is a veteran, has sued the couple over what he alleges is missing cash from the GoFundMe account.

A New Jersey couple who started a GoFundMe campaign for a homeless veteran past year, which raised $400,00, apparently began spending the money immediately, according to the veteran's lawyer. The couple raised the money after Bobbitt helped McClure when she was stranded last fall in Philadelphia. "We are working with law enforcement officials to ensure Johnny receives all of the funds raised on his behalf", the company told Gizmodo.

"With the money, I would like to get him first and last month's rent at an apartment, a reliable vehicle, and four-to-six months' worth of expenses", she wrote on the GoFundMe page during the campaign. So this is a separate criminal investigation. "Further updates will be provided as circumstances warrant", Coffina said in the statement. He indicated in court this week that his clients intend to claim their right not to testify, but Dow said she needed to hear from them in person.

Wednesday's proceedings shed little light on what happened to the cash after a Tuesday revelation from Bobbitt's attorney, Chris Fallon, that all the money was gone. He could not be reached for comment Thursday on the criminal investigation development. McClure had run out of petrol on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, and Bobbitt walked to a service station and spent $US20 of his own money to buy her petrol. The lady fulfilled all the promises which she made to the homeless man Bobbitt to buy him a home and a auto. Bobbitt claimed McClure and D'Amico had spent the GoFundMe money on travel, gambling and a luxury auto. It raised more than $400,000 from more than 14,000 people.

A "No Trespassing" sign sits at the Florence, New Jersey, home of Katelyn McClure and Mark D'Amico, whose home was searched by authorities Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018.

During the search, the couple looked unhurried.

"He's homeless and penniless", Promislo aid about Bobbitt in an interview with the Post last week.

In an appearance last week on "Megyn Kelly Today", the couple said that $150,000 of the money remained, days after telling the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News that $200,000 was left. The couple have denied that they used any more of the money for anything else for themselves.

Badway declined to comment on Friday.

Attorneys for Bobbitt were quick to point out that their lawsuit is a civil action and does not involve police search warrants.

McClure and D'Amico, via their lawyer, revealed in court earlier this week that all the money is gone.

A judge has ordered the couple to give Bobbitt all money raised - but there's none left, according to a lawyer for the homeless man.

The couple and Bobbitt had previously told reporters last month that he received just several thousands of dollars, which Bobbitt admitted spending some on his opioid addiction. GoFundMe deposited $US20,000 in an account created by the man's legal team.
