Based off the latest data, this system will feed off the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and upgrade to a category 1 hurricane early Wednesday morning.

Tropical Depression Fourteen will be in the Gulf of Mexico by Monday, expected to be named Michael, and should head north through the week as it organizes further.

The system could bring storm surge, rainfall, & wind impacts to the northern Gulf Coast by mid-week depending on the track of the system. We will have to continue to monitor the disturbance in the Caribbean through the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center at 4 p.m. CDT issued its first advisory on the storm, which is getting better organized over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

Either way, the NWS expects the system to produce "torrential rains" over the next few days, mostly along portions of Central America and the Yucatan peninsula.
