Babar back as No 1 ranked T20I batsman

Pakistan beat Australia by 33 runs in the third Twenty20 worldwide on Sunday to clinch the series 3-0 - their first whitewash against Australia in a limited over series - prompting selectors not to make any changes.

Australia now lead Pakistan 2-0 in the series with the third and final is tomorrow (29 October 2018) at 10am local (1pm AEDT). He featured in three unofficial ODIs against New Zealand A in UAE earlier in the month, picking five wickets in three matches at an economy of 4.25.

Glenn Maxwell's miserable series continued as he was dismissed for just four, his exit leaving Australia 75-5 at the start of the 11th over. Babar, who captained Pakistan at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012, had topped the batting charts for the first time in his career in January following the series against New Zealand. He then regained the top spot following the home series against the West Indies in April.

That highlights Pakistan's No. 1 ranking in the shortest format.

The tourists made one change, recalling Nathan Lyon for just his second T20 global - and first since January 2016 - in place of paceman Billy Stanlake.

Recalled spinner Nathan Lyon claimed his first ever T20 worldwide wicket when Farhan sliced to Tye at long off, cutting short an innings in which he struck three sixes.

Outside the top ten, Pakistans Faheem Ashraf has jumped 18 places to a career-best 16th ranking, Hasan Ali has risen eight places to a career-high 21st position and Adam Zampa has moved up 20 places to claim the 22nd position.

The Men in Green proved why they deserve to be the number one team in T20 rankings after a superb effort against Australia in the U.A.E. Sarfraz Ahmed's side batted first in all the 3 matches and their bowling successfully defended the target in the second innings.

Pakistan will next play a three-match T20I series against New Zealand.

The win on Sunday was Sarfraz Ahmed's 26th in 30 T20Is as captain. Australia's batting line-up never recovered from being bowled out for 89 in the first game.
