Chelsea hang on against stubborn Derby County

After Derby beat Manchester United on penalties in the League Cup third round, the draw provided another chapter of the Frank Lampard-Chelsea story.

Tomori and Richard Keogh scored own goals for Derby, who fought back on both occasions through Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn, before Cesc Fabregas' 41st-minute strike proved to be the victor.

Chelsea were struggling to hang on to get their name in the quarter-final draw of the Carabao Cup with Marriott unsafe time and time again in the second half. "[It wasn't] great for Fik in the first four minutes", Lampard said after the game.

Coming only a matter of days after Lampard was left fuming after Jayden Bogle scored an equally ridiculous own-goal, this Tomori one will take some beating. That isn't normal. I did leave out of the back door here, and that was disappointing.

Frank Lampard can be proud with the way Derby performed at Chelsea despite being beaten 3-2 in their Carabao Cup tie, according to Jamie Redknapp.

"I respect this club, I don't have to talk about this club".

On-loan Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori missed his attempted clearance and watched in Halloween night horror as the ball ricocheted off his standing leg and deflected into the net to put the hosts ahead after five minutes.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is delighted with the response of his young players this season.

The Belgian has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, sitting atop the scoring charts with seven goals in nine matches.

Tom Huddlestone (Derby) Huddlestone plied his trade in the Premier League for many years, and on the basis of this performance the 31-year-old could still prove valuable for one of the smaller clubs in the division.

Part of the Blues' success has seen a small rise in the careers of English duo Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, both of whom are thriving under Sarri in the Italian's left-sided midfield role, carrying some of the attacking burden of the team. The 40-year-old may have made his own fortune here as a player, but he certainly didn't have much on his return as a manager.

"He is looking quite good for the weekend [the home game with Crystal Palace on Sunday]".

On Tuesday, Burton Albion and Bournemouth booked their places in the quarter-finals while Premier League leaders Manchester City play Fulham on Thursday.

Despite the gulf in stature of recent times, Derby and Chelsea have had a fairly equal record in their past meetings. "So we didn't have control of the game". But now they have gone out and they can concentrate on the Championship, which is what is so important now.

It was a Lampard-esque goal and Derby's protests were dismissed by Moss.
