Warriors suspend star after Durant spat

Warriors suspend star after Durant spat

As both players returned to the Warriors bench, they continued a war of words which turned ugly with Green shouting profanities towards his team-mate.

Green ignored him and ended up fumbling the ball before failing to get a shot off as the shot clock ran out. Kevin Durant is singular.

During the confrontation, Green took exception with how he was being treated by Durant. But at other times ... a lot of times ... it has been clear to everybody involved that, at his core, Durant's talents and moods naturally remove him from some group dynamics.

According to some publications, Durant has well and truly made up his mind for next season, determined to leave the stacked Warriors roster and chase more scoring opportunities elsewhere.

Tuesday night, The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II reported that some people in the organization believe the exchange could cost the team the shot at retaining Durant after this season.

"With what was said, there is already no way Durant is coming back", one player said.

Meanwhile, although KD was unwilling to publicly criticise the antics of Green after the game, his brother had no such issues, saying the fiery power forward showed his true colours during the altercation. "[Expletive] happens in the NBA", Durant said.

The argument has led to plenty of speculation about the future of the Warriors. Green reportedly called Durant a "bit**" multiple times and challenged the nine-time All-Star about his impending free agency. It's widely expected that Durant will decline the $31.5 million option and once again become a free agent, but the chances of a third deal have apparently grown slimmer.

One night after being outscored 30-16 at the foul line, the Warriors got the better of the Hawks 20-11 in a game in which Atlanta had more field goals (40-39) and the teams had the same number of 3-pointers (12-12).
