Djokovic outclasses Zverev and secures semi-final place — ATP Finals

Zverev blazed 15 winners in the first set and for a while his baseline firepower kept Djokovic under pressure, especially at 4-4 in the first set when he had a couple of break points. His friend, Kyle Morgan, a former National Football League player who had worked the American player, died unexpectedly on Monday night, and Isner posted a moving tribute on Instagram that ended: "You were a friend, the best friend I could ever ask for". The German eventually forced the first break points of the match with the score level at 4-4 but Djokovic held after a backhand lob from Zverev drifted inches wide.

Isner wrote an emotional post on Instagram last night, saying: 'It's hard to explain how much I loved you and how instrumental you were in making me who I am today.

The World No.1 and favourite for a sixth London title was a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 victor over 6ft 10in Isner at the O2 Arena, London.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic celebrates beating Germany's Alexander Zverev during their mens singles round-robin match on day four of the ATP World Tour Finals tennis tournament at the O2 Arena in London on November 14, 2018.

Djokovic's passage to an eighth semifinal at the season-ending tournament was confirmed when Marin Cilic beat John Isner 6-7 (2), 6-3 6-4 in the late match.

"I thought I played well from midway through the second set, I started to swing through the ball but I haven't served that great".

Zverev needed to serve well as he battled to stay in the set, hitting close to 80 percent of his first serves and firing seven aces. "I expect him to play better than he did in Shanghai". He has won many Masters 1000 events already, I think three in his career, which is quite impressive.

The high-quality encounter reached a crescendo when Djokovic pummelled Zverev into submission in the fourth game of the second set.

Zverev was able to keep Djokovic at bay with his thunderous serve at the start of the first set.

Djokovic saved the first with heavy serve but then double-faulted, offering Zverev another glimpse. If I break him at 4-all, we'll see where the match goes.

Speaking about his chances of winning a 6 ATP World Tour Finals and the group scenario ahead of Wednesday's game, Djokovic said, "I'm feeling fit physically and mentally". I was getting frustrated with myself about that. Marin Cilic and John Isner both lost their respective first match.

He would, Djokovic said on court, look forward to some downtime with his family until his next match on Friday, but he will surely also fit in a couple of hours' tennis viewing to see just how that evening match pans out.
