Trumps Light National Christmas Tree South of White House

Melania Trump complimented the "fantastic" White House Christmas decorations after the colour scheme and sheer number of trees triggered protests on social media this week. "You're all very welcome to visit the White House".

Bolling asked how the first lady would like to see the media change in their coverage of her "Be Best" initiative - responding, Trump said she would like the media to focus more on what she's doing in trying to spread awareness.

Added @plucas1000: "This is the white house christmas decorations of 2018, and those blood-red trees look literally like out of a horror movie". Instead, she turned the rebuke into an opportunity for a gracious invitation, noting - by contrast with some politicians who think narcissism is a way of life - that the White House belongs to all Americans.

Melania Trump was wearing her coat instead of draping it over her shoulders - one of her signature fashion moves - in the 35 degree weather. In real life, they look even more attractive.

"I hope everybody will come over and visit it", she said.

But at a town hall Wednesday at Liberty University, the first lady made clear that all the negativity about the decorations - typically a political no-go zone - did not bother her. Strongly resembling this year's red tree motif, last year's featured an array of white trees.

There was a caveat, however: "And also sometimes you need to fight back, I'm sorry".

"Talking about opioids and getting the message out, and what is the media... hung up on with the first lady now?"

Watch Ainsley Earhardt's full interview with the first lady on 'Fox & Friends'. "In real life, they look even more handsome and you are all very welcome to visit the White House, the People's House", she said.
