Mueller goes easy on former national security adviser because of 'assistance'

"The defendant provided firsthand information about the content and context of interactions between the transition team and Russian government officials", it noted.

Papadopoulos is now serving a 14-day sentence after a judge denied his 11th-hour appeal to delay a prison sentence. As part of his plea agreement, Flynn agreed to cooperate with the Mueller investigation.

He is the only member of the Trump administration so far to plead guilty as a result of the investigation.

Thirty-three people and three companies have been charged in the probe, including Cohen, Trump's former lawyer who last week pleaded guilty to lying to Congress when he insisted that Trump was pursuing plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow in 2016.

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano disagrees with speculation that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is nearing the end game of his investigation.

The sentencing of Flynn, a retired U.S. army lieutenant general, was delayed four times after Mueller repeatedly said he needed more time "due to the status of the investigation" - an indication that he wanted to protect sensitive information.

The detailing of at least some of Flynn's cooperation also comes as Trump has increasingly vented his anger at the probe.

Cohen, who is cooperating with a federal investigation into whether Trump's campaign worked with Russian Federation to sway the election, is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec 12 after pleading guilty to tax evasion, making false statements to a bank, campaign finance violations, and lying to Congress.

The criminal charges included five counts of tax evasion, one count of making false statements to a financial institution, one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution, and one count of making an excessive campaign contribution at the request of a candidate. Trump has denied asking Comey to drop the investigation but that episode is among those under scrutiny by Mueller as he probes whether Trump attempted to obstruct the Russian Federation investigation.

The situation reportedly has shaken Trump, who during a G-20 summit appeared reluctant to take reporters' questions as he met with other world leaders.

US President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen exits Federal Court after entering a guilty plea in Manhattan, New York City, US, November 29, 2018. Stone has also waged a public campaign against Mueller. At the time, the intelligence community was concerned the Russians could blackmail Flynn.

He has instead spent considerable time with his family and worked to position himself for a post-conviction career.

New questions surrounding the case against President Trump's former national security adviser who agreed to plead guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation; insight from constitutional law attorney Jonathan Turley and Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano. The White House said he was sacked for misleading Vice President Mike Pence and other senior officials about the content of his conversations with Kislyak.
