Migrant caravan relocated to new shelter farther from the border

"The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public, and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area", Rodney Scott, the Chief Patrol Agent for the San Diego Sector said according to Ms.

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 3 (UPI) - Thousands of migrants from the Central American caravan in Tijuana, Mexico, have put their names on a waitlist for a preliminary political asylum interview with US authorities - a wait that could be many months.

"A significant number of people tried to illegally cross the border and many of them were detained in the United States".

Customs and Border Protection officials said that on the morning of December 3 security camera operators observed a group of six illegal aliens, including two small children, making their way over the border wall.

"They were brought to the border by a group that told them they would be able to cross easily into the U.S.to present asylum claims and that's not the case".

This problem, according to McAleenan, stems from weak immigration laws in the USA leading migrant families to believe that they cross the border when they don't have valid asylum claims.

Thousands of migrants have been waiting for a chance to apply for asylum. U.S. authorities have said that around 600 people in the migrant caravan have criminal records.

Thousands of migrants, mostly Hondurans, have joined caravans in recent weeks in an effort to speed across Mexico to request refuge in the United States.

On Sunday, small groups of Central Americans scaled the border wall between Playas de Tijuana and the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

There are some 5,600 migrants at the Albergue Benito Juarez shelter in Tijuana, according to the local municipal police.

And, as one news report noted, the migrants are watching to see what we do: fold, or remain strong and keep them out. The withdrawal of the city's authorities comes at the behest of Tijuana's mayor, Juan Manuel Gastelúm, who has repeatedly said he will protect Tijuana from disruptions from the caravan.

And now that the invasion has begun - even if in dribs and drabs - the question is whether President Trump will exercise his constitutional authority to stop it, as he promised, or permit leftist legal subversives and their allied federal judges to usurp his powers. Dozens of migrants interviewed by The Associated Press have said they are fleeing poverty and violence back home. Numerous migrants have taken to camping on its flat rooftop.
