Ultimate has brought the fight to 3 million USA players in the 11 days since its release and become Nintendo Switch's fastest-selling game.

In the USA sales of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild stand at over 4 million, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at over 5 million, and Super Mario Odyssey on 4.7 million.

Coming out of hugely successful Thanksgiving weekend, Nintendo has now announced the Switch is the fastest-selling game console in the United States of the current generation of consoles.

In addition to the fast-selling Super Smash Bros. "Ultimate is now both the fastest-selling game in the series and our fastest-selling home console game in Australia and New Zealand", managing director of Nintendo Australia, Kamon Yoshimura, said in the press release.

It's been another huge year for Nintendo and it looks like there's absolutely no plans to slow down in 2019.

While there are more Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox consoles now on the market, the Switch has outpaced "all other current-generation systems" since its debut in March 2017, NPD reported.

Those hardware sales, however, don't account for the launch of Ultimate, which Nintendo claims will give the Switch extra impetus as the holidays continue.

About 1.2 million copies of the game were sold in Japan and it took the top spot in United Kingdom sales charts on launch week, though it dropped to the number four spot a week later. Super Mario Odyssey has sold over 4.7 million units.

Since the Switch launched three years later than its two rivals it'll never catch up, and so direct comparisons between overall sales are essentially meaningless.

Nintendo noted that its hardware unit and dollar sales have hit their highest point since 2011.
