Sarri: Loftus-Cheek can become a star at Chelsea

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has reiterated that Danny Drinkwater does not feature in his plans at Stamford Bridge. It depends only on the match.

But the 22-year-old has featured in the Blues' last seven games, and Sarri says the versatile player will one day have a "permanent" place in the squad as he continues to develop.

When quizzed on Drinkwater's future, Sarri added: "I don't know".

Regarding the continued speculation over whether Hazard will be staying at Chelsea, Zola said: "Hopefully he will stay long with us".

"He is a very good player, his potential is great and he played seven matches out of seven in the last month", Sarri said, ahead of Chelsea's fixture against Leicester on Saturday.

"I remember him as a player".

Mats Hummel has got two more years to see out his contract with the Bundesliga giants but that may not happen as he is keen to leave anytime soon. We are very happy with him, he is improving from a tactical point of view.

"We changed the system, Danny Drinkwater was on the pitch and then we were a bit more defensive". We have already played Watford, West Ham and Arsenal.

Despite not having him in his preferred XI for the Premier League, Sarri feels Loftus-Cheek can become a star at Chelsea, and appeared to rule out any chance of the midfielder making a loan move in January. So I think there isn't a "right" position for him.

Loftus-Cheek's hopes of continuing his recent run of regular minutes in the coming weeks will be high with matches packed into a gruelling festive schedule, but Sarri warned his players not to expect much relaxation even as those around them enjoy the holidays.
