Roger Federer beats Cameron Norrie at Hopman Cup

Roger Federer of Switzerland gestures to the spectators before hitting signed tennis balls into the stands during day two of the 2019 Hopman Cup at RAC Arena on December 30, 2018 in Perth, Australia.

Tennis greats Roger Federer and Serena Williams will meet on court for the first time at the Hopman Cup on Tuesday when Switzerland face the United States of America in Perth.

Williams has said in a television interview that she was looking forward to getting a picture with Federer for her Instagram page.

Gearing up for his Australian Open title defense, Federer overcame three break points in his opening service game before rediscovering his rhythm to race out to a 5-0 lead.

Of course, there are no rankings points on offer at the exhibition event, which consists of two singles matches and a mixed doubles per tie, and it's hard to make a serious case for the result having any real impact on either's season, but as Federer pointed out this is a unique match-up of two all-time greats.

Cameron Norrie gave Britain a 1-0 lead after an upset of world No. 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6 (8), 6-4 in the men's singles.

In the only match of the Monday's program in Perth, Greece defeated the U.S. 2-1 to score their first win at this year's Hopman Cup, bouncing back after a loss against Great Britain to stay in contention for the place in the final.

Serena Williams is sizing up Roger Federer after a dominant display in her first match of the Australian summer. "There are a few matches to come here".

"It is very exciting for both of us and I hope a lot of tennis fans tune in and watch it", said Federer. "I have always thought how is it to return that serve and go head-to-head with her".

"We can relate to one another now even more so for being parents". No. 4-ranked Zverev beat David Ferrer 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (0) in the men's singles match before the German pair combined to win the mixed doubles 4-2, 4-3 (3) in the Fast4 format.

I played a wonderful match.

"It is going to be one time, probably never again". You know I've been training offseason to be ready for Roger, so not sure how I'm going to do but we'll see'.
