Browns will reportedly name offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens their next head coach

As first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Browns have hired Freddie Kitchens, the man who started the season as the team's running backs coach and ended it as a highly-regarded offensive coordinator, to replace Gregg Williams.

Williams, who was the first of 7 total candidates to interview for the job on Jan 1, went 5-3 as interim head coach after replacing Hue Jackson on October 29.

Kitchens and Mayfield formed a strong relationship during their time together, and Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam along with general manager John Dorsey are counting on the pair taking Cleveland to new heights.

It is unclear when the hiring of Kitchens will be announced by the team.

Kitchens will take over as Cleveland's head coach for the upcoming season.

We're down to three head-coaching vacancies in the NFL.

"I like it here and I like it here a lot, and everybody around here knows that I like it here", Kitchens said last month.

Critics are pretty much in agreement over Baker Mayfield's effectiveness as a rookie; most giving him a B+ grade for maintaining a positive: 27 touchdowns to 14 interceptions ratio. Kitchens began the year as a running backs coach for the Browns, and has been coaching in the National Football League as an assistant since 2006. Kitchens was a condition of employment for Browns candidates, or at least McCarthy, and they may have dodged a bullet. The Browns finished the year with a 7-8-1 record, their best since 2007. Not bad for a guy who had never been an offensive coordinator at any level of football before he took over for Haley. Generally, clunky-in-attack, the Cleveland Browns' quarterback of the present, fought back claims his attitude was holding the franchise back, namely as a deterrent to landing big name coaches.

There is also no good guess at who could serve as special teams coordinator under Kitchens either.
