Raptors officially sign guard McCaw

After three games with the Cavaliers, McCaw was waived on Sunday before his contract would have been guaranteed for the remainder of the season.

McCaw, who won two National Basketball Association titles as a swingman for the Warriors, plans to sign a veteran's minimum contract with the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Now, McCaw joins Toronto's bench as the Raptors pursue an Eastern Conference championship.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the National Basketball Association is investigating Cleveland's move to essentially free McCaw from restricted free agent purgatory with Golden State only to cut him right after, something that isn't expected to hold up his signing with Toronto. It was the end of a freaky saga that involved a half-season holdout, an offer sheet, a surprising release, and an ongoing investigation by the National Basketball Association into how it all went down.

The Warriors didn't match the offer, making McCaw a member of the Cavs.

The Cavs recently signed McCaw to a two-year, $6 million offer sheet. After clearing the waiver wire, the third-year wing became an unrestricted free agent. McKinnie played in 14 games for Toronto last season, and his Warriors contract became guaranteed Monday.

The NBA is investigating the Cavs for possibility circumventing the salary cap after waiving McCaw.

The NBA is looking into the circumstances surrounding Patrick McCaw's short stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to multiple reports. McCaw was a restricted free agent with the Warriors.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points in 128 regular-season appearances with the Warriors in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

McCaw was sidelined for nearly two months with a bone bruise in his lower back near the end of last season after a horrific fall during a game at Sacramento.
