Bucks Agree To Acquire Nikola Mirotic From Pelicans

Anthony Davis's impending trade isn't really going anywhere, with the Pelicans not ready to give into the "stupendous offer" given by the Lakers.

The Bucks are sending forward Stanley Johnson - who they acquired Wednesday in a trade with the Detroit Pistons - and big man Jason Smith, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe.

Turns out, the Bucks were making a play all along for the Pelicans' Nikola Mirotic, and needed the Pistons involved to make things work. Fighting for the top spot, the Bucks hope to set themselves apart from the Toronto Raptors and run away from the Philadelphia 76ers after they made the blockbuster acquisition of Tobias Harris on Wednesday. Milwaukee will snag the valuable stretch-4 for New Orleans, the Pistons will still receive Maker. He was the eighth overall pick in the 2015 draft.

This season, Mirotic is averaging 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists for New Orleans.

While there's still some time left between now and the deadline, the message is simple with this trade: the best team in the National Basketball Association has their sights set on this year to make some real waves come playoff time.
