Android Q Brings A Redesigned Files App, It's Whiter Than Ever Before

Android Q will reduce its reliance on private APIs, says Google. The feature works much like Samsung DeX and Microsoft's Continuum on Windows Phone, but it's a lot more limited for the time being. Details about these new additions have been revealed earlier this week after Google published blog posts and new Android support pages for Android Q following the release of a first beta version earlier this week.

It's expected to carry all the modern connectivities like 3.5 mm jack and a 12 MP rear camera that's capable of recording 1080p videos and of course the Google lens that's expected to get into this device!

For now, the Android Q beta is limited to Pixel devices including first generation. Furthermore, all Android fans need to enable the "Unknown Sources" option from the Privacy panel of their smartphones because the update is not being released via the Google Play Store.

The new OS will also expand its system-wide authentication framework to include biometric verification such as facial recognition, and passive authentication features.

In case you are not receiving the Android Q Beta 1 OTA or you do not want to wait for OTA then there is an alternate method to download and install the Android Q update.

I enrolled for the Android P beta, do I need to do it again?

You won't automatically get upgraded to Android Q. Follow the steps above to make sure you keep getting beta software. You have to enrol your device even if you had registered earlier for developer preview of the previous beta version of Android. These aren't something normal users will ever use themselves, but you'll be glad they're there if and when you try out a foldable for yourself.
