New Zealand Mosque Suspect Appears in Court

The alleged gunman has been identified by authorities as Brenton Harrison Tarrant, a 28-year-old native of Grafton, Australia. Worshippers, possibly dead or wounded, lay on the floor, the video showed.

Tarrant on Saturday was charged with only one count of murder, though Prime Minister Ardern assured the public that more charges will be added as the judicial process continues.

Huang Yan, the manager of the Christchurch branch of China's Southern Airlines, told Xinhua the mass shooting would bring negative impact on New Zealand tourism as Christchurch has just been recovered from the aftermath of the 2011 deadly natural disaster.

Just one day after the deadly attacks that claimed the lives of 49 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, the country's prime minister has declared that the government will be working toward gun law changes immediately.

At a roadblock outside the Al Noor mosque on Sunday, about 40 people were standing in silence near scores of bunches of flowers. "Obviously by some of the recipients, but not at a time prior to the attack", Commissioner Bush said.

He said they were praying "to our God of all peoples and of all cultures for peace, tolerance and good will".

The victims of Friday's shooting included immigrants from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Forty-nine people were killed and dozens more were left injured in two separate attacks on two mosques in Christchurch.

"As Christians we Cook Islanders have come to accept the church as a place of refuge, of safety and of comfort".

"I can't even go to the mosque now because I am scared of that happening again", the 16-year-old told New Zealand television.

The revelation comes as relatives of those murdered in New Zealand continued to endure an agonising wait for confirmation of the identities of those killed in Christchurch, New Zealand.

New Zealand has previously tried to change its gun laws, with the most recent attempt coming two years ago.

The video of Ardern's press conference in Wellington was published online by local broadcaster.

Unlike the US, the right to own a firearm is not enshrined in New Zealand's constitution. Tarrant said nothing, entered no plea to the charge and did not apply to have his name withheld. Armed police were deployed at several locations in all cities, unusual in a country that has had low levels of gun violence.

The Queen released her own statement about the mass shooting, in addition to the Sussexes and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Pacific Islands Association of non-governmental Organisations (PIANGO) also expressed its "heartfelt grief and sorrow" over the attacks.

"My message was, "Sympathy and love for all Muslim communities". He said he survived by played dead, but was desperate to know what happened to his friends who were there with him.
